Things you may or may not know about Japan:
  • Population = 127 million people
  • World's busiest station = Tokyo's Shinjuku Station which services 740,000 passengers per day
  • Mobile phones = 86 million
  • Number of ramen (noodle soup) restaurants = 200,000
  • First signs of civilisation = 10,000 BC, known as Jomon or rope mark period, rope patterns found on early pottery
  • Birth rate in Japan is amongst the lowest in the world
  • Two major religious influences in Japan are Shinto and Buddhism. Most Japanese practise some rites from both religions.
